Interaction of vocal fold and vocal tract oscillations

چکیده
We study the mechanical feedback coupling between the human vocal folds and vocal tract (VT) by simulating fundamental frequency glides over the lowest VT resonance. In the classical source– filter theory of speech production, the vocal folds produce a signal which is filtered by the resonator, vocal tract without any feedback. We have developed a computational model of the vocal folds and the VT that also includes a counter pressure from the VT to the vocal folds. This coupling gives rise to new computational observations (such as modal locking) that can be established experimentally.

This paper presents recent progress in research examining the mechanisms of voice generation and a method for physiologically-based speech synthesis. The overarching goal of this research is the precise modeling of interactions among physical systems involved in the processes underlying voice generation. In the basic voice generation system, a flow-structure interaction between glottal flow and...
متن کاملA novel hybrid method for vocal fold pathology diagnosis based on russian language
In this paper, first, an initial feature vector for vocal fold pathology diagnosis is proposed. Then, for optimizing the initial feature vector, a genetic algorithm is proposed. Some experiments are carried out for evaluating and comparing the classification accuracies which are obtained by the use of the different classifiers (ensemble of decision tree, discriminant analysis and K-nearest neig...

متن کاملPhysical and numerical flow-excited vocal fold models
Self-oscillating physical and numerical models of the vocal folds were investigated. The physical model was cast into an idealized shape of the vocal folds, on a 1:1 length scale with the human vocal folds, using a flexible polyurethane rubber. The model in a hemilaryngeal configuration experienced flow-induced oscillations at a frequency of 90 Hz and onset pressure of 1.2 kPa. The numerical mo...
متن کاملEffects of Voice Therapy on Vocal Tract Discomfort in Muscle Tension Dysphonia
Introduction: Patients with muscle tension dysphonia (MTD) suffer from several physical discomforts in their vocal tract. However, few studies have examined the effects of voice therapy (VT) on the vocal tract discomfort (VTD) in patients with voice disorders. Therefore, the aim of the present study was to investigate the effects of VT on the VTD in patients with MTD. Materi...
